CLOSURE OF THE CATHEDRAL
The cathedral will be closed Mondays to Fridays from 24th August to 4th September to enable the removal of asbestos from the roof space. During this period, weekday Masses will be held in the hall, which will only be accessible from the car park entrance.
The cathedral will be open as usual at the weekends.

PLEASE NOTE CHANGES TO MASS SCHEDULE
On Wednesday 26th August, Friday 28th August and Wednesday 2nd September, Mass will be at 09:00 in the hall. On Tuesday 1st September, Mass will be celebrated at 18:00 in the hall. There will be no 12:15 Mass on Friday 4th September. There will be a First Friday Mass, hopefully in the cathedral, at 18:00.

ChurchSuite
Is the name of our new parishioner database. GDPR rules means that it is necessary to register again using the QR code on the flyer which you can find at the exits. You can also register by making an appointment in the parish office.

Children’s Rosary Group
After the 10:00 Mass Sundays in the conference room. Children lead the prayers for peace and for our parish. Children and families are welcome. Rosary beads are provided.

Legion of Mary
You are invited to the inaugural meeting on Sunday 30th August after the 12:00 Mass in the CDC. The Legion of May is a lay association centred on apostolic work, prayer, and parish missionary activity. E: chuksnd777@yahoo.com.

Mission Appeal
On the weekend of 5th / 6th September there will be a Mission Appeal by St Patrick’s Missionary Society (The Kiltegan Fathers). We welcome Frs Joseph McCullough and Damian Martell to share their personal experience of missionary work. There will be a special collection taken up that weekend to support their mission.

Pray for our departed parishioners
- Joe McGannan who was a member of St John’s for many years. He died recently from Motor Neuron Disease after a brave fight. Please pray for his wife, Eileen, and their family. May he rest in peace. 
- Colleen Leeming
: Her funeral Mass will be here on Monday 7 Sept at 12:15.
- Mary Mason: Her funeral Mass will be here on Friday 11 Sept at 12:15.

Catholic Mothers Portsmouth
On Monday 7th September at 09:30 in the conference room, join our Catholic mums’ community for faith, prayer and friendship. Mothers and children of all ages are welcome. We meet on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of term time from 9:30–11:30am. Email  catholicmothersportsmouth@gmail.com to connect.

Oppose Assisted Suicide
The bill to legalise assisted suicide is back in the House of Commons. It will have its Second Reading and vote on Friday 11 Sept. Please write to your MP to make your voice heard and to oppose the bill. Visit: cbcew.org.uk/opposing-assisted-suicide righttolife.org.uk/Sept11vote.

Formation for Readers
Saturday 26th September 10:00 to 12:00 in the Hall. Readers in the parish are invited for catechesis and practical formation on proclaiming the Word of God at Mass. Refreshments available from 09:45.

St Edmund’s Open Morning
Saturday 3rd October 09:00 to 13:00. For Year 6 pupils and parents to get an insight into life at this secondary school. Booking required: Session 1:  09:00-11:00 Session 2: 11:00 – 13:00.

Housebound Parishioners
If you or those known to you are resident in the parish and would welcome the opportunity to receive the sacraments at home, please contact the parish office.

Vegetable and Jam Sale
Thank you to all who supported this sale last weekend which raised £265 for InSight. A huge thank you to Mike and Pat Russell for continuing their yearly tradition of organising this sale.

Food Bank
Please continue to support the food bank. The school holidays can be a particularly demanding time for users of the foodbank. All contributions are much appreciated. Please drop off food items in the sacristy.
